Where Will You Be a Year From Now?
I posed this question to one of my senior executive mastermind groups recently.
Members formulated a meaningful picture of what they wanted to achieve over the next year, and shared it with the group. It required some thought.
Each person had a different idea of what they wanted to work on. It was exciting to hear them express their business and personal goals – including what matters most to them now.
There’s something valuable about articulating your vision to other people, especially in a group setting. You gain more power to make it happen. People in the group ask you questions, stimulate your thinking and reinforce what you want to accomplish. They bring different perspectives.
How will you bring more power to your vision?
Here are a couple of tips I shared with the group:
1. Keep your vision (in whatever form it’s in) in front of you. If it’s written, keep it on your desk, or in your office, or in your car, or posted on a wall, etc. It might be a simple word or phrase, a quote, an image, picture, photo or object— something that clearly reminds you of your vision — where you want to be a year from now.
2. Take some kind of action TODAY that is clearly aligned with your overall goal, or action commitment for the month. (Schedule a meeting with an important contact, make a call you’ve been putting off, begin to assess new opportunities in your market, sign up for the seminar, identify or hire the help you need, etc.) It’s important to act FAST when you’ve made a commitment to achieve anything that’s important to you.
Fourth quarter is an ideal time to think about what’s next for you in the year ahead. Don’t wait for New Year’s resolution time. Start your thinking now. Then start talking about it and acting on it.
You’ll speed your progress.
