What Will Be Different?

As you enter the home stretch for the year, it’s a good time to assess what you might want to do differently in your business in the future. As a leader, get your team together to talk about the most critical issues, generate new ideas and make some decisions that will help you improve your business.

To start the conversation, get some response to questions like these:

* What are we doing that we shouldn’t be doing?

* What should we be doing better?

* What aren’t we doing that we should be doing?

* What overall strategy should we be following?

Prepare to debate the issues. Let all voices be heard. Don’t try to force-feed your team with what you want them to hear. In my work with a team recently, one member commented it was clear how excited the leader was about the vision, but the leader’s enthusiasm became too "preachy"…too forceful. Instead of being motivated, the team almost shut down.

Good leaders do have natural energy or enthusiasm about what they want the team and the business to accomplish. And they’re eager to share it with others. Just don’t stand on your soapbox too long… it might get slippery!

What will be different in your business as you move forward? Start talking about it now.
