Are You Staying On Track?

Sometimes you just know that something is off. You’re not getting the results you want.

You set some goals. You’ve been working hard, but don’t have much to show for it.

There could be many reasons.

When this happens to clients, I hear these kinds of excuses:

It’s the economy.

There’s more competition.

Our market has changed.

Our team won’t work together.

We can’t sell enough.

I’ve had too much to do.

I’ve been busy putting out fires.

But what’s often missing are METRICS – the specific actions or milestones to be measured.

They may have been there at some point, but now they’re not clear or they’re simply being ignored.

Those metrics should be translated into daily or weekly actions that are very clear. When metrics aren’t clear, it’s easy to get off track.

As an action item: revisit your data, your numbers.

What areas of your business do you need to measure better?

What metrics do you need to change?

Of course, success is not always based on how well you hit your milestones, especially if the milestones aren’t properly set. But you should be trying to quantify your data where you can.

Determine where you need to be by when.

Decide what’s important for you to measure to increase your chances of staying on track and improving your results.

(Of course, getting off track might actually be a good thing in some cases, but that’s a topic for another post.)

For now, commit to getting back on track.

If I can help, let me know.
