The Holiday Excuse

Now is the time of year when you start to focus on the holiday season. That’s a good thing.

You want to spend time with family, friends and loved ones. Relax and celebrate.

But too often, I hear friends, clients or colleagues talk about “getting through the holidays” as an excuse for putting off something important in their work or business.

“I’ll focus on ‘it’ after I get through the holidays.”

“Once we get through the holidays, we can regroup.”

Instead of allowing yourself to use the holidays as an excuse to postpone activity, what would be possible if you used the holidays as a reason to do just a little more right now?

I’m not suggesting that you try to pile on more work that can weight you down. Rather do work that will give you a boost of energy going into the holidays.

Determine a few small ways you can push the ball down the field a little faster. You may be surprised at what you can accomplish.

A couple of questions:

  1. 1. Do you know what you really need to do to achieve the results you want? If so, great! If not, figure that out — now.
  2. 2. What can you accomplish before the holidays that you might be inclined to put off otherwise?

Whatever you’re “getting ready” to do, start it now.

Whatever is holding you back, face it now.

Whatever you’ve been wasting time on, stop.

You’ll likely enjoy the holidays even more knowing that you’re taking steps to move you forward or make the change you really want.

Grease the skids as much as you can before the holidays. Slide into the New Year with a sense of accomplishment and momentum.

Don’t wait for the New Year. Begin creating your best year now.
