We’ve been on many college tours recently since my daughter will soon be graduating from high school.
Many college admissions counselors indicated that one of the most important factors in evaluating prospective students is their “academic rigor.” In other words, the schools care less about grades. Instead they are looking for students who challenged themselves by taking advanced classes.
It’s probably been a while since you’ve been in school. You don’t have a curriculum to follow, but you still get to choose what and how you want to learn.
How would you rate your rigor lately?
Of course you’re responding to challenges like difficult people, situations or circumstances as part of your role. That’s what leaders do.
But what are you deliberately choosing as a challenge?
Even the most experienced leaders lose their edge. To keep yourself at the top of your game, raise your rigor.
You can do that by sharpening a leadership skill or doing something out of your comfort zone.
Expand your vision for your team, business or organization. The bigger the vision, the more you’ll stretch to achieve it. You’ll increase your capacity to lead… And it will be worth it.
What will you do to raise your rigor?
