Preparing for Surprises
No matter how much planning and preparation you do to succeed in your business, inevitably something will happen to catch you by surprise. It may be a good surprise, like landing a new account you thought was impossible, or a bad surprise, like losing a star employee. Big surprises can either derail you or catapult you to another dimension in your business. You decide.
While you can’t anticipate everything that will happen in the future, expect more good than bad. If your intent is strong and focused, and you’re working your plan, you will generate new opportunities. Do this quick check to assess your "opportunity mindset." Better yet, see how your team would address these questions:
* Over the next six months, what is the best opportunity for your business?
* What specific practice can you improve or implement to make sure you’re focused on that opportunity?
* What is the commitment level of your team to create this new opportunity? Does everyone see it and understand its importance?
* Assuming you achieve your goal over the next six months, how would you build on it?
As a leader, you’ve got to keep your focus a few steps ahead while others are just trying to manage the day-to-day activities. Expecting surprises is just part of running a business. Choose to make the most of whatever curves you’re thrown.
P.S. Let me know if I can help you create or pursue any big opportunities in your business.
