When you commit to creating your own career path, you’re really committing to something much bigger – your own definition of success. You’re taking a stand. And you’re not settling for status quo. You’re deciding to be your own guide on a journey that is often unsettling and unclear.
Mid-year is an ideal time to assess where you are on your path and to recommit to doing the work you really want to do, the way you want to do it, making the impact you desire.
People who are driven to make a difference don’t let anything get in their way.
Sometimes you may feel like you’re stuck in a maze. Keep trying different paths. Eventually you’ll find the destination you seek – or something even better.
Here are some things to keep in mind if you’re ready to commit or recommit to something new, bigger or bolder.
- Reinvention rules. While it’s good to have goals, the most successful people are skilled at reinventing themselves. So the real goal is being good at reinventing yourself to capitalize on new opportunities, new interests or new circumstances as they occur.
- Expand your vision. As you think bigger about what you want to do, the immediate concerns or struggles will seem smaller. You’ll also help others expand their own visions of what’s possible. A gift.
- Trust your instincts. Sometimes you just know when you need to make a change or move in a new direction. Have enough faith in yourself to make the tough decisions. Listen to your own voice.
As you hit the mid-year mark, are you where you want to be? If not, what will you do, right now, to make the commitment you need to get serious about making changes?
Don’t beat yourself up. Simply give yourself permission to make a fresh start. Go from there.
