Focus or Fizzle

What do you want to be different in your business? This is one of my favorite questions to ask clients. The answers reflect a variety of desires: faster growth, market expansion, improved teamwork, better time management, increased innovation, etc.

Every day you make decisions about where you spend your time and energy. Those decisions impact your business. Whatever you intentionally decide to select as a focus will be an area in which positive change will happen. Give this a try:

* Identify one key focus area that will be a target for improvement in your organization or firm.(e.g.,technology, planning, organizing, mentoring, marketing, leadership, communication) What area needs the most attention right now?

* Determine something new or different you can do consistently over the next 30 days that will impact that area. It doesn’t have to be time consuming.

* Commit to that specific action. Remember to tell a few other people what your commitment is to help make it stick.

* Challenge your team to do the same. Imagine the power of your team’s collective commitment to focus on a specific improvement.

If you can’t stick to it, reassess your priorities, confirm a new focus or commit to a different action. Concentrate on a particular new action for 30 days so it becomes a habit.

Had I not decided to intentionally focus on communicating regulary with my market through writing, WorkMatters Tips would not exist. What will be your key focus area for the next 30 days? Stay focused. I’m eager to hear about the specific improvement in your business
one month from now.

PS: If you know of other topics you would like me to address, let me know.
