Disrupt the Status Quo

Toward the end of the year, it’s natural to think about new ideas, markets, services, products or directions for your business. However, taking action can be more difficult.

One client recently expressed concerns about being stuck in the status quo and not having enough time to even think about how to improve the business or reach bigger goals. "We’re just trying to keep up…and can’t ever seem to get ahead!"

As a leader, one of your most important roles is to constantly challenge the status quo. It takes a kind of courage to disrupt. Are you up for the challenge?

If so, I have some suggestions, whether you’re thinking about your business or career:

* Instead of striving for more, strive for BETTER. Rather than attract more customers, attract better customers. Instead of finding more resources, find better resources. Don’t try to do more of the same. Break through the status quo by identifying what can be better.

*  Instead of change, seek TRANSFORMATION. I’m sure there are some areas of your business, if not the business itself, that can be transformed. Transformation can occur more easily when you’re focused on the most exciting opportunities. What are the opportunities that can potentially transform how you do business?

* Stop wishing. Start EXPECTING. Don’t you wish your team would take on more ownership? Offer more solutions? Think more innovatively? Let them know this is an expectation. Some leaders assume that kind of performance just isn’t possible. Employee performance tends to improve based on the postive
expectation of the leader.

What are your expectations for the New Year? Are you expecting more of the same, minimal adjustments, minor improvement, or radical transformation? If you’re committed to challenging the status quo, prepare for disruption!

PS: When you’re ready to challenge the status quo in your business, let me know if I can help.
