Apply Your Learning After the Event

Last week I attended the National Speakers Association (NSA) annual convention in New York City. Over 2,000 professional speakers from around the world gathered in one place. That's a lot of talking, and energy!

I've been an NSA member over 10 years and attend the conventions regularly as part of my own professional development.

You've attended similar events for professionals in your own field — technology, law, accounting, engineering, financial, insurance, energy, health care, real estate, etc. Maybe a professional association meeting, an annual conference, or simply a class for educational credit.

Whenever you have a chance to connect with others in your field, you have a unique opportunity to learn, contribute, and get better at what you do.

It's easy to return home and settle back into your routine. However, it's what you commit to do differently that will help you improve and get better results, no matter what kind of work you do.

I created my own checklist of questions to address on my return flight — Ways to Leverage my Experience at the Convention. I share the list with you in hopes that you might use it to capture
learnings and commitments in similar situations.

My Post-Convention Checklist:

 *  How can I leverage the new connections I made, and revive older ones I've neglected?

 *  What key idea(s) can I implement right away?

 *  What trend(s) do I need to consider in my own planning, and how can I capitalize on those trends?

 *  What is something new I learned or experienced that might be of interest or benefit to my clients or colleagues?

 *  What will I do to make sure I'm following through on what I know I need to do?

Make the most of association meetings, conferences or other group events you attend. Don't just show up. Show results!

P.S. If you're looking for a speaker for your fall or winter event, let me know if I can help. Or to learn more about my speaking and facilitation services, visit:
