Achieve Your Goals in the New Year

British researchers have found that to achieve goals, men should set specific, concrete goals and women need the support of other people. Of course, both genders need all the help they can get.

Interestingly, one in ten actually fulfill goals by the end of the year. These findings were recently reported on National Public Radio.

Whatever your goals are for the New Year, it will be important to understand exactly what you need to increase your chances of achieving them.

Here are few ideas that work well for different people I have worked with:

* Ask yourself, "What’s most important about the goal?"  Or "What will achieving the goal give me?"

* Write down your goal and refer to it often.

* Create a vision board or something that is a visual representation of your goal.

* Talk about your goal publicly. Do this one-on-one or in a small peer group setting.

* Make a few notes before bedtime. Your mind can be working on your goals while you’re sleeping.

One of the most important actions you can take immediately is to determine what you can do NOW to get a fast start on your goals. Commit to making short-term progress. Create early momentum. Get a fast start to get great results throughout the year!

What action will you take now to make it a great 2008?
