This month you can’t help but think about the unimaginable events that happened ten years ago.
In a conversation with a friend who lost his brother in the 9/11 attacks, he spoke of his experience as though it happened yesterday. Ten years seems like a long time, but it doesn’t always feel that way.
A decade of experience creates the opportunity for a lot of learning.
I often encourage my clients to reflect on their experiences, and capture lessons learned in their work and life, so I decided to do that myself.
I came up with the following top-of-mind ten lessons. These are random, but important lessons and observations based on my coaching work with leaders and/or experiences in my own life.
I hope you find them helpful in some way.
- You can’t grow in your comfort zone. Get used to being out of it.
- A little encouragement goes a long way. It often starts with listening.
- Choose team members wisely. They can make or break your business
- Expand your business by expanding your mind. You can find new ideas and inspiration everywhere.
- Surround yourself with people who believe in you, love you, challenge your thinking and make you laugh.
- Help people see what’s possible for themselves – especially those possibilities they may be missing.Be enthusiastically devoted to helping people achieve their goals.
- Find objective perspective. You’ll make better decisions.
- Don’t sacrifice what’s most important to you – whether it’s something valuable you have now or a hope for the future.
- Progress beats perfection. You’re usually more ready than you think
- Life is fleeting.
What’s an important lesson on your list?
