Still waiting to see what changes may unfold? Don’t wait for things to happen TO you. Make things happen FOR you.
Create the conditions that are best for success in your organization: clear goals, strong capability, positive energy.
Then decide how you want to move the business forward, even under difficult or changing circumstances. Keep your engine running, even if you have to make stops or veer off course
temporarily.
Your strength is in your people, so engage your team to help your organization move forward. Here are suggested questions to prompt productive discussions with your team:
1. What is the biggest new business opportunity we can create or pursue in the new year?
2. What is one specific way we can strengthen relationships with key stakeholder groups? Examples include: clients, customers, patients, volunteers, investors, partners.
3. What new idea, practice, technology or tools are we willing to try?
4. What practice, product, service or project do we need to discontinue or restructure?
5. What obstacles can we anticipate, and how can we overcome them?
As a leader, you bring needed energy to your team by involving them in conversations about creating the most desirable future. Set compelling goals.
What about YOU?
Are you ready for anything? Strengthen your personal commitment, perseverance and optimism. Spend some time thinking through similar questions in a personal context.
Ask yourself:
1. What is the biggest opportunity I can create for myself?
2. What is my core strength?
3. How will I overcome obstacles in my way?
4. What do I really want?
5. Where do I want to be a year from now?
You can’t achieve your business goals at the expense of your own goals. The business must give you what you need and want. Be clear on what that is.
Fill yourself. Fuel your business.
